Fashion Fix

fashion fix

Date night was great and we even got to stroll around after dinner. I popped into Ann Taylor Loft for a Fashion Fix aka 40% off the entire store. Shop the sale online here. In 15 minutes time, here's the damage:

Wrap style silk skirt discount price $24.
Love the pocket detail and faux wrap panel.

Faceted jewel metalwork necklace, discount price $20.
I'm liking it against the plain white tank, but still on the fence about it. Thoughts? Is it a keeper?

Chandelier earrings, discount price $11.
Perfectly dramatic.

Lots of sales this weekend kicking off the Memorial Day Holiday. I'm sitting out the rest of the great sales, I've already gotten my "fashion fix." Be safe, enjoy friends, family and the holiday weekend!

Lookbook (Date Night)

{Bangle & Earrings: Kendra Scott}

{Blouse: Ann Taylor, Jeans: Mossimo, Shoes: Stuart Weitzman - Clip}

The little princess is finally getting old enough (and potty trained enough) for us to take advantage of Parents Night Out Programs. We drop her off for a few hours and she gets to play with other kids, very cost effective. So here we are with an impending Friday night date and we have no clue where to go. We are so used to going to kid friendly eateries that we have drawn a blank on where to go for a nice sit down dinner. We'll decide on the fly. It'll just be nice to have a few hours to ourselves.

The dining establishments around these parts are pretty casual and my outfit tonight is probably considered a little on the dressy side. When better than a nice evening with hubby to get a little dressed up right?

Animal undertones was the theme of this ensemble. From the feather bangle bracelet & earrings by Kendra Scott to the abstract animal print of the Ann Taylor blouse. I'm not one to pull off an overt animal print which is why I love the subtle print of the blouse...and the ruffles, I love me some ruffle detail. My set from Kendra Scott started with the vermeil feather earrings which I picked up at TJ Maxx; I was stoked when Gilt featured the matching bracelet. The show stopper heels are by Stuart Weitzman. You may think I am off my rocker when I say these stilettos are comfortable. I swear to you they are; I feel like I can walk a mile in these. Really. The secret is the platform, these babies are high, 5 inches high BUT the 1 1/4" platform cancels out a little bit of the height making them a feasible 3 3/4". I really did not know these were that high until I saw the specs. WOW. That makes me 5' 6"!! You don't know how excited that makes me! L.O.V.E. the platform heel. If you don't have a pair I highly recommend!

We are off to din din! Hope you all have a fantastic Friday night!

Five Out of Six

Known for styling the likes of Rachel Bilson and Kirsten Bell, Nicole Chavez is an old schoolmate of mine. She is a doll and has always had fabulous style. As a guest contributor to one of my favorite online shopping destinations, shopbop.com, Nicole lists her top six must haves. I am proud to say that I have five of her six must haves. As much as I'd love to rock a sequin skirt, it may prove to be a little too over the top here in the Denver burbs. I do have a matte sequin tank that is great for layering. Does that count?

Here's the rundown:

SMYTHE Black Blazer
A tailored blazer is classic, feminine, and looks great on all body types. Pair it with anything: jeans, little dresses, trousers, skirts. Make sure to find one that fits you well and accentuates your waist.

Eugenia Kim Straw Fedora
I’m always on the go, so it’s my fashion solution to a bad hair day. It makes any outfit complete and more relaxed. Great for lazy weekends and vacations.

Jenni Kayne Sequined Skirt
I love glamorous touches like this skirt paired with slouchy cotton tees and cashmere sweaters.

Current/Elliott Boyfriend Jeans
A staple in my closet. I love wearing them during the day with sandals and at night with a super-high heel.

Michael Kors Oversized Watch
A watch is as much an accessory as it is a timepiece. A gold one is a great way to dress up an outfit—try leaving it loose so it looks like a bracelet.

Velvet Jean Shirt
Pair a medium-wash shirt with a jean that is a shade or two darker. Accessorize with leather sandals or a worn-in messenger bag.

Lookbook (Lunch Date)

{Tank: Forever 21, Pants: Forever 21, Pyramid Necklace: Ann Taylor,
Tassle Necklace: Banana Republic, Shoes: Pedro Garcia}

It has been a long while since hubby and I have had a lunch date sans toddler. Lunch dates used to be one of my favorite indulgences with hubby. There is something to be said about a quick connect and chit chat over lunch. So today it will be a treat for us to get some "we" time. Maybe I can convince him to swing by the Nordies sale.

One of the reasons I love Forever 21 is that I can get in on a trend without breaking the bank. After all a trend is a trend and over in a blink of an eye. I splurge on shoes and handbags. I know I can get mileage out of good shoes and handbags. Not to mention they hold their value in the resale market.

Onto the dhoti. D...what did you say? The dhoti pant is akin to the harem pant. As in "Stop...Hammer time!" The dhoti pant is trend I can not fully commit to. BUT, there are varying degrees of harem. The sagging crotch look is not my usual cup of tea. The inspiration behind this look is Miss Olivia Palermo. She can mix highs and lows, downtown and uptown like nobody's business. In an attempt to tread in the dhoti water, I found these Silk Elitist Pant from Forever 21. These are a very conservative approach to the dhoti pant. Some may even say that they are just a slouchy crop trouser. Fine. As long as people aren't singing the MC Hammer anthem as they walk by. The other reason I love Forever 21 is for my staples, like tanks and tees. I wear white tanks and tees to death and for under $5 I can stock up on a few and retire them when they get dingy.

These Pedro Garcia heels are my chic version of the Berkinstock. These heels have the bones of the ultra comfy, haute hippy Berkinstock sandal. I have fallen in love with Pedro, he makes one darn comfortable heel. I swear these get more comfortable the more I wear them.

Wish me luck in convincing hubby to hop over to the big anniversary sale. Hopefully I'll be back with a few little trinkets! Bye for now!

Target Tuesday (With An Etsy Twist)

{Dress: Mossimo, Target. Belt: Etsy-Elizabeth Kelly
Shoes: Kors, Necklaces: Forver 21 & Express}

{Cardigan: Forever 21}

You all must think I live at Target. Truth be told, my gym is located right next to a Super Target. Super as in they have a super market in the store. It is just so much easier for me to stop in there and pick up the items I need than to make another stop. I pay the price when I get side tracked and wander away from the produce section. Hubby needs to put a shock collar on me so that I get a little jolt when I move pass the grocery aisles.

Here is a cute little strapless dress I found when I moseyed on over to the clothing department. So cute right? It is by Mossimo and for $21 I couldn't pass it up. Perfect for the warm weather that is upon us. I have been dying to wear this belt that I bought off etsy.com. The dress has a tieback, but I tucked the ties around and put the belt over it. There is still a little chill in the air so I threw on a cardi from Forever 21. I love how things come together so easily sometimes.

Etsy is chalked full of talented artists selling their crafty wares. For the most part you need to have some sort of idea of what you are looking for. I was in search of an obi belt. At first I thought I could make something, but going that route would have resulted in another unfinished project. When I came across this beautiful obi belt, all bets were off. I had to have it. Of course my first instinct was to go with the safe bet of either brown or black. This was a special belt and I decidedto go with something different, so I choose the aubergine hue. The artist is based in England and custom made the belt to fit my waist. I waited a little longer for the belt to ship from overseas and it was well worth the wait. I love it so. I am building outfits around this lovely belt.

Elizabeth Kelly is the artist and she has other types of wrap belts. Check out her store here.

The shoes are by KORS (by Michael Kors) from 5+ years ago. My stomach sank when I saw these being blown out on 6pm.com for $25. I paid full retail years ago. I actually couldn't believe they were still around. I'd like to think I was ahead of the curve, buying nude shoes back in the day.

What Memories Are Made Of

{Psst..girls this one is on the house}

{Having fun manning the stand. Sell, sell, sell!}

{Hard at work}

{Don't drink all the inventory!}

I was never the garage salin' type, but when you have a child you amass a mini fortune in baby gear, clothing, etc. (Note to self, never by anything new for baby. Gladly accept hand-me-downs. I am sick over all the clothes that sold for pennies on the dollar.) Our neighborhood organizes a big garage sale to attract the masses. So with a ton of stuff to unload I decided to partake in the festivities. Apart of the garage sale madness, my neighbor and I decide it would be a good time to give our girls their first lesson in entrepreneurship, a lemonade stand. I try not gush too much about the princess, but this is what memories are made of. It was just too cute to see two year olds trying to sell lemonade. People were getting shots of lemonade instead of a full glass. Hmm...maybe she was trying to teach me something.
